I’m a wife, mother of two adult sons, friend and yoga teacher who lives in Madison County, Virginia. I want to serve the amazing people of the 24th Senate District which covers Augusta, Greene and Madison Counties and parts of Culpeper and Rockingham Counties.
I was born in Texas but moved to Fairfax County, Virginia in 1990. I may not be a native, but my husband is a descendant of one of Madison County’s oldest families pre-Revolutionary War. I also have a family connection to Virginia. My ancestor, Cornelius Cooper, who served as a supplier for North Carolina in the Revolutionary
War, was born in Virginia in 1730. I fell in love with Virginia’s scenic views and rich culture.
My husband of over 30 wonderful years and I purchased our home and property in Madison County in 2013. We moved there permanently in 2016. The last thing I ever thought about was running for office…until November 9, 2016. The controversy of the presidential campaign and the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education inspired me to seek public office. I believe my life experiences and love for the people of Virginia can help make a positive difference.
In March 2017, I decided to run for the Democratic nomination for the House of Delegates in the 30th District which includes Madison and Orange Counties, and the southern part of Culpeper County. I lost by one vote at the District Convention, but that wasn’t going to stop me. With the wave of Democratic victories in the 2017 election, I believe I can help flip the Senate to Democratic control in 2019. If I want change to happen, then I need to be that change.
I have my positions, but it is your issues and your insights that will propel this election. The incumbent, Sen. Emmett Hanger, has held the seat for over 20 years. It’s time for fresh ideas and a fresh look at the everyday issues of the people of the 24th Senate District. I’m running for office because I truly care about you.
